Keith is probably best known as the saxophone player with Moving Hearts. Before he played with the Hearts, he was a recording session player and member of several jazz groups, including Jim Doherty's Spon, Noel Kelehan's Quintet and various bands with Louis Stewart, Mike Nolan and many others. Highlights of that period include the jazz album Ozone and a two week stint at Ronnie Scott's in London with Noel Kelehan. Keith has played or recorded with Christy Moore, Ronnie Drew, Mary Black, Van Morrison, Bill Whelan, The Dubliners, Gerry Mulligan, Zoot Sims, Sinead O' Connor, Gilbert O' Sullivan, Davy Spillane and many, many others. Since the Hearts, Keith has written music for films and TV, played on dozens of records in Ireland and abroad, as well as working for the Arts Council and setting up MusicBase in Temple Bar. In 1998, Keith wrote the music for the BAFTA award-winning BBC drama, United. Currently, Keith spends his time writing and playing. With his daughter Alex, he formed a band to play the songs of Cole Porter; the line-up is Alex on vocals, Keith on various saxophones and clarinets, Jim O'Neill on piano, Garvan Gallagher on bass, Sean Devitt on drums and vocals, with Bill Shanley occasionally guesting on guitar. Keith also performs regularly with Fiachra Trench and Carmel McCreagh, playing the love songs of the 1930s. In 2002, he visited South Africa and guested on several albums, including the renowned Vusi Mahlasela's new CD. |
